Personal Biography:

Dr. George Athansios earned his DMD at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, formally UMDNJ, and soon after, practiced as a General Dentist for 14 years. His desire to continue learning caused him to seek training, and complete his periodontal residency at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He is Fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry, (AGD), a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, (AAID), and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology.

Dr. Athansios’s dedication to patient care, evidence based practices, and ongoing education align with The Smilist’s values. He is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association and New Jersey Dental Association. He is a past President of the Essex County Dental Society and currently sits as a Trustee on the Board of NJDA.

In addition to his qualifications, Dr. Athansios’s compassionate nature and effective communication skills make him an outstanding, positive, and collaborative clinician.

While not at work, Dr. Athansios is busy giving back to his community. He is a volunteer Firefighter at Cedar Grove Township and actively participates on mission trips with colleagues to provide dental treatment to underprivileged communities around the world. Dr. Athansios has participated on missions to Bolivia, Guatemala, Thailand, Egypt, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
