POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS – ZOOM WHITENING
At KK Dental, we want your whitening results to stay bright, healthy, and long-lasting. Please follow these teeth whitening after-care instructions carefully, especially in the first 48 hours when your enamel is most vulnerable.
Important First 24–48 Hours
After a Zoom whitening session, your enamel becomes more porous, which means stains can penetrate more easily. This is the most critical period to protect your results.
- Teeth can easily absorb stains during this time.
- Avoid anything that can stain a white shirt.
- Continue these precautions throughout your take-home bleaching period, plus one additional week for best results.
ZOOM WHITENING – WHAT TO AVOID AFTER TREATMENT?
(Important for protecting your results)
Following these Zoom whitening what to avoid after treatment guidelines will help you prevent discoloration and sensitivity.
Drinks to Avoid
- Coffee
- Tea
- Red wine
- Cola or dark sodas
- Sports drinks with dyes
- Energy drinks with colouring agents
Foods & Condiments to Avoid
- Ketchup
- Mustard
- Red sauces (pasta, marinara, curry)
- Soy sauce
- Steak sauce
- Berries of all types
- Red meat (steak, hamburger)
- Chocolate
- Tomato-based soups
Oral Care Products to Avoid
- Colored toothpaste (use Sensodyne, recommended by KK Dental)
- Colored mouthwash
- Fluoride varnishes unless approved
- Chlorhexidine rinses (they can cause brown staining)
Pro Tip: Follow a “White Diet” for 2–3 Days
Choose foods that won’t stain:
- Chicken
- Fish
- Rice
- Bananas
- Yogurt
- Milk
- Cauliflower
- Egg whites
- Plain pasta
- White cheeses
This diet protects your enamel while it rehydrates and stabilizes after whitening.
**TAKE-HOME WHITENING
(Start 3 Days After Your Zoom Session)**
Preparing Your Trays
- Make sure trays are completely dry before adding gel—water dilutes the product.
- Add a small dot of whitening gel in each tooth compartment.
- Avoid overloading trays (can cause gum irritation).
- After inserting trays, wipe away any excess gel on your gums.
How Long to Wear Your Whitening Trays
- Wear trays for 2 hours per session.
- Use all the whitening gel provided (usually lasts a few days to one week).
- For best results, be consistent with daily use.
Managing Sensitivity
Sensitivity after whitening is common. You can ease symptoms by:
- Reducing wear time
- Skipping a day if needed
- Discontinuing treatment if discomfort becomes excessive
Helpful Tip:
Store whitening gel in a cool, dry place. Heat or sunlight can break down the formula and reduce its effectiveness.
WHAT NOT TO DO WHILE WEARING BLEACHING TRAYS
- Do NOT rinse your mouth with water (dilutes gel).
- Do NOT swallow the whitening gel.
- Do NOT drink, eat, or smoke with trays in place.
CLEANING YOUR BLEACHING TRAYS
- Remove trays after each session.
- Gently brush the inside of the trays using a soft toothbrush.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Allow trays to fully dry before the next use.
POST-OPERATIVE SENSITIVITY (“Zingers”)
Some patients experience short, sharp sensations called “zingers.”
Ways to Reduce Sensitivity
- Apply Relief ACP gel in trays before or after bleaching.
- Use OTC pain relievers (Advil, Tylenol).
- Brush with Sensodyne or other desensitizing toothpaste.
- Stay hydrated—drink plenty of water.
Additional Notes
- Mild sensitivity is normal for 12–48 hours.
- If sensitivity persists:
- Avoid very hot or very cold drinks
- Brush with desensitizing toothpaste twice daily
